In that time, i've recorded over 1,100 movies and 61 different series (about 4,120 episodes), most with all of their seasons (ie Friends, The Office, Frasier, Dick Van Dyke, Perry Mason, etc etc. My take - I've had Playon Desktop since March 2016. So after about 3 years or so as an owner I believe I will support their competitors simply for that reason. I don’t get that feeling from this company. However I want to spend that money on a business that I feel runs well and has a good balance of their needs and my needs. I’m good with a monthly subscription service. The reason for that is because their history shows they are just bad at business. I have 0 plans to take advantage of their free offer or to continue to use their product. They’re shortsighted on how to handle this and they were shortsighted on when to stop selling lifetime licenses. The real truth is that it seems that the owners are very bad at business. They could have set limits on as the lifetime of the version. To be honest, the best way to have handled this was to stop selling lifetime licenses early but they didn’t. Playon decided the “lifetime” license was not for the lifetime of their software, or the lifetime of the machine it was installed on, or the lifetime of the version, they decided this late in the game that it was the “lifetime” of the OS. Not the person you were replying to but Desktop was supported on Windows 11 until Playon decided it wasn’t. I hate subscriptions, that's a big reason I bought Playon in the first place. Will I personally go to Playon Home? Probably not anytime soon, not until I have to. It isn't like a 1998 version of Microsoft Word, which so long as you use it on a computer running Windows 98, works fine. I think what is different about Playon is that it has to connect to channels to work, and when those channels change their ways Playon has to re-code to keep the software working. I don't know of any software that does that, Playon has been better than most in this regard. Playon is not super-straightforward in their notice *PlayOn Home, PlayOn Desktop and Windows 11.*It reads like corporate communication, but they have a perfectly good point that a lifetime license carries no burden to perpetually update the software for new operating systems. The Android app that supported streaming from Playon was dropped, but the old APK still works if you side-load it. The Playmark browser extensions stopped working under updated browsers. I haven't seen Playon disabling anything, I saw problems emerge as Netflix, etc, changed their software and Playon released updates.įeatures went away when Playon stopped supporting them. I don't know if it would work at all if I tried to use it (certainly not all channels would work), but I think that so long as Playon did not disable that executable they legally satisfied the terms of the agreement. What did us lifetime users buy? I bought PlayOnSetup.4.2.71.exe. Over the years I have used their support (decent) and fought various bugs, but all in all the program works pretty well. I bought Playon desktop for $39.99 in 2017.
